Robin is an adventurer, plunderer and interpreter of electrical music making gear. With a lifetime fascination with music technology and 25 years working in the industry he’s built up an enormous amount of experience and developed skills as a communicator in many forms.
His pursuit of Music Technology took him through University in 1996 and to ten years working in Turnkey, London’s busiest music store, selling synthesizers, samplers, pro audio and emerging computer music gear. During this time he published two books on computer music and ran Carillon Audio Systems bringing the first PC designed for music production to market and installed systems in places such as Air Studios, The Strongroom and Sir George Martin’s home studio.
In 2006 Robin ran the UK operation of Rain Computers building audio PCs for producers, musicians and rock stars. He also brought The Pro Tools PC to market, the only computer designed, built and supported exclusively for Avid Pro Tools.
Becoming fully independent in 2013 Robin formed Molten Music Technology Ltd as an umbrella for his diversifying range of talents. This has included building audio PCs for studios but increasingly his work is in producing content and unravelling the mysteries of music technology in both print, online and video media. His YouTube channel has passed 7 million views, gathered over 50,000 subscribers and has built up an enthusiastic audience with its engaging content, easy-going style, live streams and monthly news roundup.
In 2019 he was considered a YouTube Influencer by Thomann Music Store and invited to their exclusive “Synth Reactor” event.
He’s produced a number of popular video series including the only content focused on making music on the Microsoft Surface platform and documenting his journey into modular synthesis and Eurorack.
Recently his writing about technology has become a larger part of his output. For several years he’s been writing reviews and features for Sound On Sound magazine, the world’s premier audio recording technology magazine. In 2018 he took up the role of a regular columnist focusing on PreSonus Studio One. Sound On Sound has also invited him to present a seminar on modular synthesis at the SynthFest show in Sheffield.
From 2016 to 2024 he was the synthesizer correspondent for news website Gearnews.com. And since 2017 he’s been providing monthly gear articles for CareersInMusic.
Robin is renowned for his engaging and detailed videos, cool shirts and an uncanny ability to explain and unpack complicated things with a laid-back air of wonder.
